Hi to all members of this forum,
I have been visiting this board regularly for quite some time because I am looking for information which airshow in the UK to visit. This is an important choice since I do not live in the UK and travel and lodging expenses will be such that I cannot afford to just "go and see" what is best.
Of course, what one wants all depends on one's interests. What I look for is an air show with many flying aircraft. The more different types, the better. I prefer WWII aircraft, both the bigger bombers like the Lancaster, B-17 etc. and the fighters from that time. But I also like WWI-era aircraft like bi-planes. And '50s and '60 fighters like the Hunter and Sea Fury (in particular, for personal reasons) and bombers from that era are a feast for the eyes to see in the air.
And did I mention that I do like to photograph them?
For completeness, I am not (at all) interested in stationary aircraft in a museum and a static display I do not find very appealing either.
Over the last few years I have come to the conclusion that Duxford has several airshows that attract many visitors. I know that there are several shows each year, but I have difficulty finding out the "character" of each of these shows. I was hoping that experienced visitores of this forum could help me with this, knowing what I am looking for.
To complicate things, I recently read a couple of times (some on aircraft spotter sites I cannot remember) that Duxford airshows are not as good as they were a few years ago (to put it in my own words).
Perhaps someone can help me to put those remarks/critics in perspective. Is that really true?
And if so, what would be better alternatives - again, for what I have in mind.
As I wrote, I have to save money to go to the UK for an air show and I expect I can go once every two year (though I hope for every year). So I cannot afford to be wrong.
I do hope that there are members to this forum that can help me with these two questions, with what I look for in mind.
I do hope this is not too much to ask for, being so new at this forum.
Thanks in advance for any answer!
