Five Hour Flying Display at RAF Cosford Air Show
The Typhoon will headline this years RAF Cosford Air Show. Last year the Typhoon made a brief appearance at Cosford, this year it will give a full eight minute display. Visiting aircraft from the Netherlands and Austria will boost interest in the event, which will feature a low - level performance by a Boeing 757 airliner, operating out of Nottingham East Midlands Airport by DHL.
The famous Red Arrows, the RAF Aerobatics Team currently perfecting their 2005 display on a training visit to Cyprus with their Hawk aircraft, will go through their spectacular routine - this year fairly early on in the flying programme. After their display the Red Arrows pilots 'the Reds', and support team 'the blues' will attend a special stand where they will meet members of the public.
Air Show co - ordinator Norman Branagh says: The Red Arrows met with the public last year, when they celebrated their 40th anniversary, and this meet - the - people arrangement was a big success, to be repeated this time. The public certainly appreciates being able to talk to a group of pilots whose skills are acclaimed worldwide.
Also at Cosford will be the popular Battle of Britain Memorial Flight of Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster.
Mr. Branagh says: Preparations are going extremely well this year. We already have a strong and varied flying programme, well up to the high standards of recent shows. The Large Model Aircraft Association, which stages it own two - day international rally at Cosford in July, will provide a warm - up to this years air show with a 50 - minute display featuring models with wing spans of more than twenty feet and powered by miniature petrol and jet engines.
The RAF's freefall parachute team - the Falcons - will be at Cosford again jumping from a Hercules transport aircraft, which will later land on the airfield.
Also at Cosford this year will be a Tornado F.3 and GR.4, a Jaguar, the versatile Harrier, a Hawk from 208 Squadron, Hercules, Tucano and Tutor.
The Royal Navy will be bringing the Black Cats Lynx Pair, a Sea Fury and Sea Hawk, and the Army will be represented with a display by the Blue Eagles and an Apache AH.1 on static display.
Two PC - 7 aircraft will come from the Royal Netherlands Air Force, with Saab 105 OE aircraft coming from Austria - 2005 will see the Austrian Air Force make their Cosford display debut.
Tickets for the air show are available from offices of the Shropshire Star and the Staffordshire, and by contacting 0870 121 2523 or via www.seetickets.com. They can also be obtained between 9am and 5pm at the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford, or be telephoning the museum on 01902 376 200.
