With poppy Sunday looming it seems quite fitting to remember those that helped us during ww2. About ten miles south of Norwich lies the now disused airfield of Hardwick once the home of the USAAF 93rd bomb group.
Although now long gone from the site the efforts from the group once nicknamed "Teds Ttravelling Circus" have not been forgotten.Every 3rd Sunday from around April to October a small handfull of volunteers gather at the airfield to remember the 670 men lost from March 1942 to May 1945.
There are some interesting artifacts and stalls to look at as well as a nice little canteen selling homemade cakes and a nice cuppa. As an added bonus to making the trip A Mr Maurice Hammond who operates a small fleet of classic aircraft from a grass strip on the site gives his a machines a bit of an airing. With some good photo opporunities in and around his hangar that alone is worth the visit.
Looking around the small nissan huts that hold some of the old artefacts it soon becomes apparent this old airfield site must have been a hive of activity and if you really let your imagination take over you can almost hear the sounds of the franetic American accents echo from the past.More precise information on the group can be found here 93rdbombardmentgroup.com
Attached are some photos from the site and people who can be seen there,as can be seen from the photos a lot of involvement in other major charities is undertaken.Single B/W photo shows Douglas Fairbanks Jr and on the group B/W photo Col Ted Timberlake can be seen 2nd from right and the lst B/W shows the airfield how it was during 1942 to 1945.Thankyou to the curator for letting me use the images.

Just a quick note to say some of the aircraft that visit the hardwick site are visitors and these include the Yak52, WW1 Boredom fighter replica and Mustang Big Beautiful Doll.Maurice Hammond also wears the light coloured flying overall in the group shot .Hope this rectifies and explains things a bit better.Cheers.

John, regarding the Hyperlink, if you add www. to the beginning of the website address then it should automatically add it as a highlighted hyperlink.
