NEWS - MILDENHALL "AIR EVENT" CANCELLED - « Thread Started on Apr 14, 2005, 5:26pm »
Just received the following email from someone local to the base:
NEWS - MILDENHALL "AIR EVENT" CANCELLED - COMMENT
Hi all,
The Public Affairs Office at RAF Mildenhall put out yesterday afternoon that the proposed air event 'pencilled-in' for early May is cancelled. There will be no "On-Base" public event this year.
You may be interested to note that the cause is sighted as 'cost', with the base having to make "millions" of $ savings to offset monies required for "The War Against Terror". However, I understand from an on-base source who was on the planning committee for the proposed event, that it was not the actual cost of purely running the 'event' which was the stumbling block. The actual reason was the additional funds that would be needed to PAY FOR THE EXTRA SECURITY OPERATION to allow such an event to take place !!
On another saddening note, it is unlikely that the USAF will send any aircraft as static exhibits to airshows in the UK in 2005 unless all vehicle parking is Off-Base !! I'm not sure if this is ALL USAF aircraft or only applies to USAFE.

There has been no mention of a airshow taking place at Mildenhall in 2006.
The last Air Fete at Mildenhall took place in 2001. Last year there was plans for a small 'community Day' event but even this was cancelled.
With the on-going war on terrorism, US security concerns, parking problems at Mildenhall, cost, and now a lack of US airshow organising experience it is unlikely they will ever have another large display, although i hope i'm wrong about this.
It is possible that they may put on a small event in the future for the locals, a ‘community event’, but no official details have yet been given out.

I've just registered and am disapointed the airshows are becoming fewer. I remember going to Mildenhall and watching Globemaster 2's with C130A's along with the modern C141A!! At the airshow there was a B58. Happy days. Stay safe
